More than 40% of Africa’s one billion people live in urban areas, but this figure is on the rise. By 2030, more than half of the continent’s people will be urban dwellers, and in many African cities, thousands of new vehicles are appearing on the roads each year.
This has caused – and will continue to cause – a major congestion issue. In Nairobi, for example, the average commute time stands at 57 minutes, and congestion issues across the continent are not helped by poor public transport systems.
