PayShap waiting for its Google moment
PayShap, South Africa’s fledgling instant payments network, is gradually attracting traffic. But it’s still waiting for a catalyst to trigger a take-off in demand.

In September 2017, transactions on India’s nascent payments network exploded. In just 100 days, volumes rocketed from less than 17 million transactions a month to more than 100 million.
They’ve continued to soar. Now, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) network processes over 360 million transactions a day. The value of transactions delivered across the UPI network reached 182.2 trillion ($2.2 billion) last year.
