In Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs: A Biography, Jobs is quoted as saying that a relationship begins to form between a customer and product the second the customer starts opening the box.

That is why Jobs paid special attention to the packaging of each of Apple’s products. The company’s products are beautifully crafted and work well, but its packaging is also something to be marvelled at. The same cannot be said for many other manufacturers, which see boxes as a form of protection – and that’s it. However, this isn’t true in the case of the Monster Beats by Dr Dre headphones. The box comprises a wrap-around cover, which, when removed, reveals a beautiful and easily opened box. No force or sharp objects required. Thus, a well-made box definitely gives the customer a feeling of even greater things to come when the product gets put to use.
Launched in 2009, the Monster Beats Dr Dre headphones are taking music to the next level. They are not those in-ear types that cause continuous scratching and irritation, but instead comfortably wrap around your head and cover your ears. The iconic red cable leading from your MP3 player combined with the letter ‘b’ on the headset ensure you don’t look like a confused pilot wandering the streets, and the sound, well it’s better than any in-ear headphone I have tried out. Treble, mid and bass sounds are not distorted – even at maximum volume. Apart from the headphones, you will find a standard 3.5mm cable connector and an additional ControlTalk device that lets you adjust the volume on the fly. Unlike many other products where the packaging will be tossed, this cannot be said about the Monster Beats by Dr Dre. The box oozes style and sophistication.
