Africa’s drift to cloud
When it comes to continental cloud, South Africa has well over 90% of the installed capacity.
08 March 2024
The great building boom in datacentres on the African continent continues apace, and with it, the cloud services that run in them.
In an attempt to quantify this growth, Console Connect, an interconnection provider, commissioned a report that was carried out by the Balancing Act consultancy firm. The 2023 report provides a snapshot into the state of cloud uptake and datacentre development on the African continent. Balancing Act spoke to over 50 companies providing datacentre and connectivity services, and over 100 companies and organisation consuming cloud services. Despite Eskom’s power problems, most of the continent’s datacentres are in South Africa, and they all have significant backup systems in place.
