Mention the name Computer Associates (CA) outside the IT community in South Africa and it is likely all you will receive is a blank stare. Move to the US and its high media profile will almost certainly elicit a response, albeit not always that flattering.

Over the years, Computer Associates has earned a reputation, justly or not, as a sometimes-ruthless acquirer of companies and technology.
The winds of change are, however, blowing through CA – driven to a large extent by the replacement of long serving chairman Charles Wang with the young and personable Sanjay Kumar.
