If we thought ransomware was bad now, it’s about to get much, much worse. Ransomware gangs are evolving their techniques, and the question is, what will they do next? The answer is, pretty much everything.
So says Roger Grimes, a data-driven defence evangelist at KnowBe4, adding that around the end of 2019, ransomware authors grew tired of certain victims refusing to pay the ransom because they had good backups. They realised that the access they had to the victim’s data was the real crown jewels, and this could be exploited for their own gains.
