Danger, digital

Do we really need teachers?

Thanks to the internet, the nature of education is changing.

I was fortunate enough to spend some time recently with Regenesys Business School Chairperson Dr Marko Saravanja. During the hour or so he had pencilled in to accommodate me, we discussed a variety of topics: the importance of learning towards continued self-enrichment, the state of global schooling, and – finally – giving education away for free. Yes, for free.

After decades spent building a respected business school, Saravanja recently made the decision to give away its intellectual property gratis in the hopes that it will encourage more people to learn and share that knowledge. What I find particularly significant about this tactical manoeuvre is that he’s chosen the internet as the primary engine of distribution. Today, anyone can log in to the Regenesys student portal and access the school’s course material without having to jump through fiery hoops, leave behind credit card details or suggest the platform to no less than 100 acquaintances.
