Investment in people pays off
Investec’s Kerusha Kanjee aims to create a collaborative space where people can contribute ideas, take risks, and learn from their experiences.

One notable thing about CIO Kerusha Kanjee is how much time she spends focusing on people, not technology. Managers routinely declare that a company is nothing without its people, but Kanjee takes it further than most. As the CIO of Investec Wealth and Investment International, she works to create a sense of belonging and diversity within her team. To support that, she established an inclusion and diversity programme with themes such as community projects, religion and culture, mental wellbeing and innovation.
The community stream, for example, gives IT career talks at underprivileged schools and supports women in tech initiatives. The religious and cultural stream has staged food and educational events to enlighten colleagues about their cultures. The mental wellbeing stream has hosted neurodiversity discussions to support colleagues on the spectrum, while the innovation stream held an AI day to stimulate curiosity and understanding among Investec staff.
