Investors show healthy appetite for VC

Institutional investors are beginning to diversify into VC, says SA SME Fund.

Since announcing in April that it had landed a R60 million investment from the Hlayisani Growth Fund, a Stellenbosch-based tech company that builds AI solutions for corporates has been able to sign three new clients, including its first major one in the US.

The startup, Spatialedge, is one of 13 that has benefited from a combined R675 million in funding from the SA SME Fund’s R800 million venture capital (VC) “fund-of-funds” announced in May 2023. The others include startups like RapidDeploy, R&R, Sportable, Tractor Media, FarmTrace, iG3n and Cultura Fresh, among others.
