What gets me up in the morning is the thrill of the unknown, the opportunity to learn every day and impact lives. The digital transformation journey can be unpredictable, constantly presenting new challenges and opportunities, not just for the individual, but for organisations.

Phokeng Mogase, CIO at FSCA

Phokeng Mogase, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority’s (FSCA) CIO, is a woman with a value system grounded in knowledge and excellence. She values roles that provide opportunities to impact people through her collaborative and transformational leadership style.

One of her career highlights is getting the FSCA ready for Digital. “Data is at the core of our digital transformation journey and in the last three years this required investment into building an appropriate data platform, integration platform and a hybrid cloud operating model. We also expanded our analytics capabilities and introduced some automation tools while also maturing our cybersecurity resilience.” she says. “We have now shifted our focus into transforming our business by improving customer experience and balancing that with improving our operational efficiency.

We are maturing our access channels, pursuing customer journey mapping and introducing customer self-services including plans to offer some subscription services to provide on demand updates on various activities that would be of public interest. Now a seasoned ICT professional, with 22 years’ experience spanning across both public and private sectors,

Mogase has established herself as a digital leader who is focused on converting traditional businesses to digital businesses, bringing the customer voice to the boardroom and helping organisations become more responsive to their customers through digital transformation drives.

Pushing creativity

“With the current economic challenges, we have to do more with less, pushing us to be more innovative and creative.

“For creativity to thrive, tech professionals cannot afford to show up with tech knowledge only. We need to have a sound knowledge and insight on the business domains we service. The digital revolution has levelled the playing field, and the opportunities that it has created are for take up by both men and women. “We all must acclimatise and constantly upskill and reskill ourselves on new technologies. Women bring a unique approach to solving business problems and we need more of them at every level. I look forward to a future where more women are involved in high-tech roles”.

“I learnt in my own career experience that people cannot excel in environments riddled with fear but rather thrive in environments where they feel seen and heard. As I matured in my leadership journey, my approach became more collaborative, experiential and fun. I am much more focused on facilitating organisational collaboration that can help drive our vision forward. My experience is that magic happens when you work with an inspired cross-functional team
