Proving that successful innovation is not about technology alone, the only IT-related project to make it into the top three was in the National Innovation Competition an unlikely winner because no new technology was involved.

Instead, the personal tracking project by three electrical and computer engineering masters students from the University of Cape Town applies existing technology in an innovative and commercially viable way.

Bridging the gap between innovative ideas and commercially viable products is the principle underlying the competition`s aim of promoting a culture of entrepreneurship.
