POE Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows networked devices to draw power from their Ethernet connection (as the name says). Emulating the humble telephone, the 802.3a PoE standard originated with the IEEE, the standards body for Ethernet, which wrote a standard specification to allow networked devices to draw power from the self-same Ethernet cable that carries data.
