CSR is dead. Long live CSR!

It’s time to kill off Corporate Social Responsibility.

23 January 2009

CSR’s day has come and gone. It has out-lived its usefulness. In its current form, it’s a wasteful, disingenuous, sometimes dangerous distraction from the core job of business.

IN ITS CURRENT FORM. THAT’S MY GET-OUT line. So: let’s not kill off the idea, but kill off the form. CSR needs to be reinvented, re-orientated and recast. This is an argument that has very, very slowly emerged in my mind but I am now convinced that currently it is doing more harm than good – probably precisely during the last five year period when many commentators were beginning to think that CSR was maturing nicely.
