The spice of life

Swahili restaurant in Rivonia offers visitors a unique experience and a taste of the exotic.

01 May 2006

In a setting that`s more Cape Town Long Street than Johannesburg Rivonia, Swahili brings together Arab, Indian, African and Portuguese cultures in both décor and fine food.

Brass light fittings are suspended from the ceiling, while wooden furniture is made comfortable with bright, exotic cushions.

While many might associate North African cuisine with lamb dishes, strongly influenced by Arab culture, as a restaurant, Swahili has borrowed the best parts of all the colliding cultures of the region to produce a delectable and varied menu, enhanced with the evocative flavours of Zanzibar, the Spice Island.
