Oil on the flames

An Icasa report into Telkom`s ADSL offering has prompted a fiery response from the incumbent telco.

01 September 2005

In the midst of a burgeoning price battle led by the few companies able to compete at Internet access level with wireless offerings, a report of the findings of an inquiry Icasa held into the provision of Telkom`s ADSL service has stirred up the flames.

The report was welcomed by some as a fierce regulatory move to stamp out high telecoms prices and monopoly abuse, questioned by some as “anti-competitive” because of its efforts to regulate product specifications, and roundly rejected by others – primarily Telkom – as technically ignorant.
