Mobile future: the disconnect

Mobile operators will lose their battle against the internet.

09 August 2009

It’s quite possible that there is one mobile connection for every two people on the planet right now. Reliable figures of how many people this translates into are both hard to come by and skewed by people who own more than one handset (and also by devices that use mobile connections). But it’s safe to say it’s a lot, certainly more than two billion but probably less than three.

That’s a lot of users, possibly even the largest single market on the planet. Not bad for a technology that’s only been around for a couple of decades.
