In recent years, fintechs have often been described as a disruptive threat to the financial industry’s established players. The narrative that fintechs are using emerging technology to disrupt incumbent banks has frequently painted the relationship between the financial industry’s oldest and newest players as adversarial.

But at a recent roundtable, these two groups came together to talk about the shared opportunities and challenges faced by the local industry. The discussion centred on the future of financial technology in Africa, with a particular focus on South Africa’s evolving market. In addition, it unpacked what role cloud plays in enabling the financial industry to move forward and better meet the needs of its ever-evolving customer base.
