Nokia has unveiled a new open industry initiative extending local connectivity between cellphones and small devices.

Called Wibree, this technology is seen to extend the role that mobile devices play in consumers' lives.

“Wibree is Nokia's step towards connecting the final metre,” says Bob Lannucci, head of the company's research centre in Helsinki, Finland.
