AN IMPORT ANT TASK

Since its inception in 1999, the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) has been mandated to consolidate and coordinate the South African government’s ICT resources, securing the best possible solutions at the best price and value for money. It is a difficult task to achieve in a complex – and often privileged – ICT environment and the past four years have seen the agency facing and resolving many challenges at the structural and decision-making levels. And while its various challenges and difficulties have grabbed most of the headlines in recent times, SITA has emerged from a period of restructuring and introspection with a renewed vigour and commitment to leveraging ICTs as a strategic resource for government.
