The emerging potential of Central Africa

Not much is said about ICT progress in Central Africa, but under the cloud of obscurity is a region ramping up.

25 May 2011

Central Africa consists of the countries of Cameroon, Central African Republic (CAR), Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of Congo, and the island of Sao Tome and Principe. This region has a population of about 114 million, according to the CIA World Factbook.

The DRC has the largest population at 71.7 million people, followed by Cameroon with 19.7 million and Chad with 10.8 million. The remaining countries have less than five million people each. While the region does not represent the largest potential consumer market, it is connected to the Nigerian market of 150 million through Cameroon, as well as the regional markets in East and Southern Africa through the DRC.
