Winds of change

The BYOD (bring your own device) trend has become reality in business and now companies, large and small, are struggling with the implications.

06 January 2014

According to recent research, the biggest culprits driving BYOD are C-level executives. This, coupled with a shift in mindset that views ICT investment as strategic, has resulted in more CEO involvement in ICT decisions and led to a scenario in which ICT systems must cater for a wide range of mobile devices without compromising corporate data security.

Interestingly, this trend exposed the myth that any one vendor can corner the corporate mobile device market. That idea was killed off by the emergence of prosumer users who want a single device for both personal and business use. Given that these are the most demanding of users who are subject to marketing campaigns for sexy and cool devices, the impact on corporate ICT systems is significant.
