Some serious horsepower

Intel`s ‘V8` platform is, without a doubt, the ultimate workstation available today.

As computer users, we have never had it this good. The strides that hardware manufacturers have made over the past decade have seen the raw performance of processors and other components push the hardware game some way ahead of the software game. For the most part, it`s safe to say that users are fairly satisfied with the computing performance they`re accustomed to today.

The moment it looks like the hardware available on the market is pulling ahead of software, the vendors invent more complex filters for Photoshop, higher-quality video and audio formats (like high definition), embed more vector data into CAD applications and build spreadsheet applications that offer a ton more scope for calculations to take place.

Last month, Intel sent Brainstorm a computer system that has become affectionately known as the ‘V8`, thanks to its eight Xeon processor cores. By adding more cores to processors, Intel believes that even power users could have their day of real satisfaction to look forward to. In the next few years, the V8 will pave the way for 16- and 32-way processors. It`s certainly an exciting time.
