Don't blend into the background

Seasoned CIO Louise van der Bank talks tech trends, inspiration and how to get on in the workplace.

20 October 2021

Covid-19 exacerbated existing challenges in SA, such as the lack of a reliable and cost-effective electricity supply, high unemployment, and social instability, as witnessed by the riots in July. This will all have far-reaching consequences in the coming years, as the economy struggles to recover. So says Louise van der Bank, CIO at AfriSam, speaking of the greatest challenges the country is facing.

She says the pandemic and lockdown restrictions have caused significant disruption to the economy. The vaccine programme remains the only sustainable way to protect people against the virus and return the country to some level of acceptable economic activity. However, the slow rollout, coupled with a severe third wave of infections, could jeopardise the country’s economic recovery.
