There’s a thing we ol’ timers used to say about the internet, especially after Google changed the game, that the internet gives you the world’s knowledge at your fingertips. And then there was the utter glee we took in the realisation that, contrary to Mrs Maths-Teacher’s condescending warning, we do, in fact always have a calculator on us these days – thanks to smartphones. Now, in 2024, we’ve added the power of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to our pockets and handbags.

OpenAI – the company behind ChatGPT – launched its app in mid-2023, initially restricted to US-based users and iOS devices (iPhone and iPad). Eventually, the company rolled it out both geographically and to devices running Android. But, I confess, I let the launch pass me by and remained a website user…until now.
