Transforming Africa
Addressing Africa’s infrastructure challenges will require what used to be known as ‘out of the box’ thinking, nowadays known as good old innovation.
01 September 2011
The African continent represents over 20 percent of the world’s land surface – some 30 000 000 square kilometres. When it comes to solving the lack of ICT infrastructure in Africa, it will take innovation to connect this vast continent.
These innovations will have to address several questions. First, how do we reach rural populations that still make up a large percentage of Africa’s population? Second, how can cost-effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly technologies be deployed? Third, how can enough power be generated to support the infrastructure? And fourth, how can flexible and fast solutions be deployed?
