While we are very much focussed on the flood of new devices for mobile computing and communication, we might need to look beyond the obvious reasons for their popularity.

Yes, we like to carry our communications and internet access with us – to be always connected. The convenience offered by mobile devices is a given.
But practicality and productivity do not completely explain why they are so popular. And the common-sense reasons for having and using them fail to explain why their dedicated followers bond with these inanimate objects so firmly.
