There are a number of Identity and Access Management (IAM) vendors out there, but CyberArk and BeyondTrust seem to be the most active in South Africa. Both companies’ offerings appear to be similar, and both include Privileged Access Management (PAM) capabilities, a subset of IAM. I’m more familiar with BeyondTrust, particularly after a deep dive by Brandon Haberfeld, global head of platform security for Investec Bank.

Investec seems to have been particularly successful in its PAM deployment, and this is probably due in no small measure to the tenacity of Haberfeld. He has a ferocious attention to detail, and he says he’s been told many times that he’s “pathologically OCD”.
