Tsholofelo Kodisang
I am a documentary and portrait photographer based in Johannesburg. My journey into photography began with a desire to create the kinds of images that I felt were missing, images that reflect the everyday lives, beauty, and complexity of the black lived experience. I document the ordinary and the extraordinary, offering an intimate and honest portrayal of black identity, culture, and community. Through my lens, I aim to document fleeting moments that resonate far beyond the frame, highlighting the joy, resilience and depth of black life, while challenging dominant narratives that often overlook and/or misrepresent our experiences. My work explores the space where tradition meets modernity, showcasing both cultural heritage and contemporary realities. Whether photographing candid moments or composed portraits, I compliment my photographs with personal narratives to evoke emotion and connection while sparking dialogue. This is how I contribute to the visual and cultural conversation, offering an authentic perspective on life in South Africa.
