I am a journalist and documentary photographer based in Makhanda, Eastern Cape. My work spans portraiture, events, and cultural storytelling, shaped by an insider`s perspective and a relationship-first approach to the people and places I photograph. I have participated in the Eastern Cape Women`s Empowerment Photography Workshop and am currently part of the 2026 National Legacy Project, developed in collaboration with the École nationale supérieure de la photographie in Arles, France. My work has been exhibited at the Albany History Museum, including the group exhibitions Singobani, Who Are We? and Intlabi Yekhaya. I love photographing people as experts in their own lives, and I run Aphiwe Ngowapi Photography, offering services for both editorial and commercial client projects.
