I am a third-year Bachelor of Fine Arts student at Rhodes University. My photography journey began when I discovered that I felt more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. Through the lens, I found a way to observe, understand, and connect with the world from my own perspective. What began as a place of refuge has become a practice rooted in storytelling, exploring memory, place, movement, and the quiet moments that shape our lives. Working across documentary, conceptual, portrait, and sports photography, I resist being confined to a single genre, allowing each story to determine its own visual language. My practice is deeply informed by my studies in Fine Art and Art History, which encourage me to think critically about representation, memory, identity, and the ethics of image-making. I am particularly drawn to the lived realities of black communities, approaching them with care rather than romanticising or reducing them to spectacle. Rather than speaking for others, I seek to bear witness with honesty, creating photographs that honour complexity, dignity, and the stories that deserve to be seen, remembered, and felt.
