With design, start with a blank canvas

Canva, the easy-to-use graphic design studio, has leaned into the needs of the SME.

Canva is an all-in-one photo editor, logo and collage-maker, and video editor that anyone can use for free. But the paid tiers are where the real value can be unlocked, with a huge library of templates, AI design tools, photos, graphics, fonts and audio tracks. The platform has around 265mn monthly active users, and 31mn on its subscription tiers, with an annual recurring revenue of $4bn; it handles around 1.2mn requests per second, and has over 162 petabytes of media, which is growing by around 230 terabytes every day. Around 450 new designs are being created every second, and the platform has had to scale rapidly, which is why it is built on AWS.

We talk to Vicki Robinson, marketing coordinator, KID Group, and Cat Swartbooi, digital strategist, Centre for Environmental Rights (CER), on how they’re using the platform for their organisations.
