With a Fold, who needs a laptop?
Eight generations in, Samsung’s once-upon-a-time proof of concept foldable is all grown up.

Samsung's mid-year release cycle in July saw an updated Z Fold range, which, like its Galaxy phones, has seen a split into the Fold 8 and the premium Fold 8 Ultra. The Ultra is meant for what it calls “maximum productivity”, while the standard Fold 8 is meant for “discovery”, based on its new size and ratio.
The Fold 7 became my laptop replacement. I took it on overnight trips where I conducted interviews, attended conferences, drafted emails and articles, and watched in-flight entertainment. On the treadmill it was my go-to screen for series or vodcasts, leaving my iPad Mini gathering dust in a drawer. I’m all for technology having the power to change my habits, which is exactly what the Fold 7 did.
