What do you need from an AI notetaker?

Otter, the pioneer in real-time, AI-powered speech-to-text for meetings and intelligent insights is still going strong, even with plenty of competition.

Otter.ai wasn’t the first transcription tool to use AI, there were plenty of others, like Dragon Naturally Speaking, which were doing interesting things with the technology back in 2016 when it came to life. Otter was, however, the first to bring real-time transcription, speaker identification and cloud storage together in one app. Over the past decade, the app has evolved, and in 2025, the company reached about $100mn in annual recurring revenue.

With a user base of more than 25mn, this OG of digital transcription is still going strong. We interview Belinda Overend, CEO, Bastion Group, and Jean- Marié Hamman, COO, Obsidian Systems, to find out how they’re finding their daily use of the technology.
