On being a passenger princess in a Zoox, Amazon’s autonomous robo-carriage.
02 February 2026
I’ve heard people refer to them as toasters on roller skates. To me, Amazon’s robotaxi fleet is pretty similar to Roomba vacuum cleaners, except in this scenario, there are humans instead of cats onboard. Zoox is a relatively new addition to the Las Vegas Strip, and I got to ride in one at re:Invent, AWS’ annual cloud conference.
Like every other ride-hailing service, you catch a Zoox using an app. As you step inside, you’ll find comfortable seating, a custom radio station, temperature control panels and, of course, everything you need to charge your devices. It’s cute, comfortable and feels very sleek.
