Thinking big

Blue Label joint-CEO Mark Levy says the R17-billion-turnover-a-year company is just starting. Clearly, this is a man with a mission.

A wall of empty Johnnie Walker Blue Label whiskey bottles towers above Mark Levy. It stretches from floor to ceiling, and has spilled over on the opposite wall too, behind the bar. Bowls brimming with colourful bags of Jelly Tots, Mars Bars and other candies are spread out temptingly on a low table in front. There’s some sort of model on the table too, like a kind of dolls’ house for boys, which I’m eyeing from a big squishy couch.

The whole room is a cross between a toyshop and the local pub, and it’s where Mark Levy holds his business meetings.
