The gateway to Rwanda
Rwanda has digitised over 200 government services for citizens. All they need is an internet connection.

By all accounts, Rwanda’s Irembo digital platform has been an unqualified success. Citizens can access over 200 state services, and counting, all without visiting a government office. Foreigners can also make use of a more limited selection.
Irembo, or “gateway” in Kinyarwanda, was launched in 2015, and as Landry Chedjou, the infrastructure lead for the service tells me: “Our purpose is very simple: we need to improve people’s lives [through] convenience and simplicity by making the country’s services digital.” He says its chief mandate is to digitise all the public services in Rwanda, and the agency is deploying a number of services from software company Nutanix.
