As an individual, public servant Tandile Stuurman seems warm and friendly, with a massive laugh and a youthful face that belies her age of 43. But career-wise, Stuurman is determined steel. She makes no secret of the fact that she’s aiming for a higher position where her IT skills can make an impact that will affect the citizens of South Africa.

“I want to serve my country. It is all about the people,” she says, almost as a mantra that keeps her going when the slow pace or frustration of working in a cash-strapped government department must grind her down.
