Tando Luyaba is determined to drag South Africa’s public service into the digital age.

Anyone who has to deal with government services(and that’s all of us) has a horror story to share. Long queues because no one is on duty or the IT systems are down; malfunctioning websites; online appointment systems with no availability; or procedures that must still be tackled manually. In a country where dealing with public services is a nightmare, a man like Tando Luyaba is practically a knight in shining armour.
And in recognition of his efforts, Luyaba was named ITWeb Brainstorm’s Public Sector CIO of the Year 2025 for overhauling technology at the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) and the Information Regulator.
