There are well over 50 colocation datacentres in South Africa, with more being built, as increasing numbers of businesses decide that it’s easier to outsource this function than try to do it themselves. But not all colos are equal. They differ on billing, uptime and services, but the very best offer the highest levels of redundancy, security and scalability. With all this choice, what questions does a customer need to be asking of their prospective datacentre operator?

Graeme Millar, MD, SevenC Computing, says the company recently invested quite heavily in its own equipment in a datacentre, and is now planning the next step. He’s pondering a move to a smaller datacentre, and asking at what point it will become necessary to move to a Tier IV datacentre.
