Music to our ears

The rights to using music legally are littered with challenges. The idea of a website that clears music rights at the click of a mouse was undoubtedly rather appealing to Ronnie Apteker.

We all love music, but have you ever tried to clear the rights to a track you like for use in a commercial or a feature film? In fact, have you ever tried to secure the rights to a song for any kind of usage? Talk about a difficult problem.

We were taught at university that if you could solve a difficult problem, you could make a lot of money. Now, money has never been a big driving force for me, but I certainly like the options that money brings. I am also inspired by difficult problems. So when the idea of a service to automatically clear the rights for a song via a website was presented to me, I was all ears. Also, along my colourful path in the filmmaking arena, I have encountered many challenges when it comes to music rights. Clearing the rights of a track you want to use in a movie is a very complex problem indeed.
