The numbers vary, but it’s thought that over 100GW of new datacentre capacity will come online by the end of 2030. JLL, the global real estate services company, says this will see $1.2tn in real estate asset value creation, while McKinsey predicts around $7tn will be collectively spent on datacentres worldwide in the same timeframe.
As for power, worldwide datacentre power consumption will reach 980TWh by 2030, according to Gartner, or around the same as the current electricity generation for the entire African continent.
