Quantin van Rensburg

During a conversation with Quantin van Rensburg, he suddenly poses a question to himself. “Q,” he says, “where do you draw the line? When do you license something with a vendor, as opposed to building it yourself?”

He’s talking about when to develop bespoke software rather than use off-the- shelf packages, but I’m amused by how he calls himself Q, like the James Bond character who equips 007 with top secret gadgets. “Everybody calls me Q,” Van Rensburg grins, and for a second I can imagine him as the ingenious geek creating cunning gadgets for the secret service.
