Lobbying for change

SPONSORED: It seems a rather well-kept secret, but for 92 years, the Automobile Association of South Africa (AASA) has been championing the rights of motorists, campaigning in many different transport-related arenas to make motoring and travel safer, cheaper and healthier.

28 January 2022

“The AA fights for people’s rights,” says Willem Groenewald, the AASA’s chief executive officer. “We are a non-profit and consumer advocacy organisation and the negligible price we charge for subscriptions, starting at R99 per month, is ploughed back into many initiatives. Through this we give people a voice on important issues as well as the peace-of-mind of conventional roadside assistance.

“Examples of where we have been extremely active include fighting for a review of the country’s fuel prices to counter the extraordinary and constant fuel hike increases, calling for a revamp of the existing driving licence renewal systems and lobbying for lower carbon emissions.
