Learning from the machines
Technology can be good, bad, or ugly, but every so often, you come across something that just works.
Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that new technology really can be quite exciting, interesting and potentially life-changing. Many of us who came of age around the same time as the internet have gone from being techno-optimists to neo-Luddites, moving from joy and wonder at the capabilities of the computer and the internet to deep despair in the face of what people do with them.
The cynical scales that have grown over our eyes feel justified when faced with the reality of living in a tech-enabled society. Those in charge of the algorithm know that it feeds softcore porn and misogyny to kids and doesn’t care as long as it carries ads. Enough money to feed, educate and buy every person on the planet an iPad is spent on some technology that wouldn’t be missed if it vanished tomorrow.
