Is making Teams work dream work?

It’s one of the key business enablers of the transition to work from home, but what do CIOs really think about Microsoft Teams?

26 August 2022

Microsoft Teams was initially launched towards the end of 2016, but only started to gain traction from March 2017. Available in 181 countries and connected tidily to Microsoft Office 365 Enterprise and Business, it initially had around two million users, many drawn from the pool of already captive users immersed in the company ecosystem. In January this year, Microsoft revealed that the platform had over 270 million monthly active users, as of December last year.

According to Statista, Microsoft Teams is one of the top five players in the messenger service market in South Africa, with a user share of 20%, coming in below WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Zoom and Telegram. It’s widely accepted to be one of the more popular business applications and played no small part in Microsoft becoming the second company to reach a $2 trillion market evaluation, which it did in June 2021.
