Investing in technology

How one entrepreneur’s early interest in the internet helped lay the foundations for her technology firm.

Leeanne Cape

Leeanne Cape did not set out with a grand plan to build a company. “Quazar started because there’s a problem, I need to solve it. I need to make some money. I must build promptly, and I need to build an entity around it.” Building solutions to challenges as they arise is what defines the marketing and technology firm she leads today.

Her instinct for identifying opportunities is what eventually drew her into technology. In the early 1990s, Cape became fascinated by the emerging internet through conversations with Professor Ken MacGregor, then head of the computer science department at the University of Cape Town, and tech evangelist Forrest Holleman, both of whom had worked in enterprise technology. “We started talking about the internet, and I thought, this is going to change the world,” she remembers.
