In the decade I’ve had access to electric vehicles, the BYD Seal was the first time I could test the vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature.

This allows the car to act as a portable power supply, so if it’s connected to a distribution board, it can power a home. Or, like a giant power bank, the extension cable that comes with the car can power appliances. Using the BYD, I made an espresso, smoothie, toast, tea, and dried and styled my hair with two hair appliances, one of which was a powerful Dyson Supersonic hairdryer.
