Being chief information officer (CIO) for a public entity like a metropolitan municipality brings with it a whole new set of challenges and problems, compared to the average private sector CIO. The Annual African ICT Achievers Awards recently identified the top three public sector CIOs in South Africa.

The job of the public sector chief information officer is a challenging one – not only does he face the same tough decisions and huge responsibilities of the average private sector CIO, but combined with this is the huge task of balancing the needs of the public with the capabilities of the public sector organisation represented. It is therefore a highly specialised and challenging portfolio.

ForgeAhead`s annual African ICT Achievers Awards features a category honouring the Top Public CIO.
