The challenges of managing identities remains pervasive, as companies come to terms with identity maturity, strategy and the increasing number of service accounts, APIs, bots and AI agents. Over the past few years, the number of non-human identities have also increased, and organisations need to find smarter ways of accounting for identity types in their environments. Meanwhile, they must also account for third-party risks, the impact of AI on compliance and the necessity of zero-trust and just-in-time access. As attackers aim for credentials to gain access to organisations’ networks, CISOs and CIOs are looking for ways to secure the identity and embed proactive and layered security measures to protect against these threats.

Boipelo Rathebe, data management consultant, BRR Group, says identity security is managed in a fragmented way. “You would think that the C-suite executives would prioritise identity management and the systems around it, but this is not the case in my experience.”
