There is a fierce battle underway in the local retail pharmacy market, dominated by Dis-Chem and Clicks. While Dis-Chem is ahead in revenue growth, Clicks is seeing more profitability. In its latest FY results to the end of February, Dis-Chem reported revenue growth of 9.3%, or R42.8bn, compared to Clicks’ interim (six months) growth of 7.4% or R24.9bn.

Dis-Chem, however, saw declines in headline earnings per share (17.4%) from the previous reporting period, and operating profit declined 11.9%.
